NEWS / U.S. Marshals Track Murder Suspect From Alaska to Guatemala


Anchorage, AK - The U.S. Marshals Alaska Fugitive Task Force tracked murder suspect Ariel Patrick to Guatemala. Patrick was wanted for the murder of Jamaal Barras that occurred Sept. 29, 2007 in Anchorage. Subsequently, the Anchorage Police Department requested assistance from the US Marshals Service-led Alaska Fugitive Task Force in locating and apprehending Patrick.
The investigation was bolstered after a key tip indicated Patrick may be in the country of Guatemala. Additional investigative work conducted by Anchorage Police Detectives and U.S. Marshals along with the help of the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service and Guatemalan authorities led to the apprehension of Patrick on Monday.

Patrick, a U.S. citizen, was found to be in Guatemala illegally. He was detained and subsequently deported by Guatemalan authorities back to the United States.

Patrick entered the U.S. in Houston, Texas, today where U.S. Marshals arrested him on the outstanding warrant for murder issued by the State of Alaska. Patrick is awaiting extradition from Harris County, Texas.
