NEWS / Cruise line passenger allegedly posed as US citizen by using fake birth certificate and ID

A national of the Philippines allegedly used a fake birth certificate and driver’s license to board a Princess Cruises ship in Alaska.

According to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska news release, Enrico Ronquillo, 37, used the counterfeit vital record to board the ship between May 11 and 14. Both his fake birth certificate and driver’s license were from the State of California. Ronquillo is a Philippine national legally residing in the United States.

The fake identity was stolen, USA Today reports. According to prosecutors, Ronquillo also used a fraudulent IRS Form W-9 containing the victim’s name, address, social security number, and signature during the cruise.

Ronquillo is charged with one count each of false impersonation of a US citizen and making and using a false document as well as two counts of aggravated identity theft. If convicted, he faces up to 5 years in prison for the first two charges and 2 years in prison for the latter counts.
