So are you planning on doing business in another country? Are you a manufacturer that needs to prove where your product came from? Then the Certificate of Origin is an important document for you.

Need for the Certificate of Origin

Why would you need a Certificate of Origin? Apart from being a document that proves that a product was produced and at one point modified, remember that not all countries have the same governmental rules and regulations.

Keep in mind that all countries will require a certificate to be filled out and that Commercial invoices usually supply a statement of origin but most authorities will make you furnish a separate document for validating origin.

Nations that participate in the Free Trade Agreement might have preferential exceptions. This type of exclusive document borrows its' name from preference.

If you are seeking a COO why not have your documents prepared adequately for you foreign purposes and uses? Also a specific Certificate of Origin exists for certain countries and was made for commerce among countries that participate in a Free Trade Agreement.

Basic guidelines for the Certificate of Origin state that this document must be signed by the exporting business, the business that sends products an d services out of a country; the country selling these products or services is called an “exporter” and works out of their home land. While, the country that is purchasing goods or services is labeled as the “importer”.

The next step is the need for notarization. After having the document notarized the next step usually is validation. The certificate is then validated by an agency that is local. A local agency is used because it will be considered acceptable and the certificate valid. Specific procedures will be needed to gain validity, however. One requirement is the presentation of the Certificate of Origin and as well an Invoice. Remember that a commercial invoice generally bears a statement of origin. Most nations use as the designated agency for these matters by using the Chamber of Commerce or the Department of Commerce.

Proper document preparation

Proper documentation becomes even more important than ever as one engages in international trade. Please take the time to arrange your documents and keep track of important details. Working in foreign territories naturally brings up issues that can be addressed if the correct documents are at hand.

Another important point to make with the COO is the fact that translation may be a factor. The COO is a kind of document that deals in international trade. If the importing country's own tongue is not English then document translation will be sought.
