NEWS / CBP Stops 68-Year-Old in California With Almost 200 Pounds of Marijuana

Andrade, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Andrade port of entry stopped a 68-year-old man Thursday with almost 200 pounds of marijuana.

At about 6 p.m. on December 23, the U.S. citizen and resident of Yuma, Ariz., drove a white 1997 Ford Explorer to the border crossing, where a CBP officer referred him for further inspection.

A CBP officer with a narcotic detector dog screened the vehicle, and the canine alerted.

Officers found 67 packages hidden throughout the vehicle, including in all four tires, containing a total of 197 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $90,000.

CBP officers seized the vehicle and narcotics, and turned the man over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. He will face criminal charges.
