NEWS / Donald Trump to sue Bill Maher for disproving orangutan descent with birth certificate

Business mogul Donald Trump says he will sue liberal commentator and comedian Bill Maher for the latter’s failure to follow through on a $5 million public bet he made last month. Maher challenged Trump to produce evidence that he was not descended from an orangutan, to which the billionaire responded by releasing a copy of his birth certificate

“He promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information,” Trump said on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” show. “Well, I provided the information. He didn’t pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity.”

Maher, the host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” told Jay Leno during a January “Tonight Show” appearance that he would direct $5 million to the charities of Trump’s choice if he could provide evidence that he was not a “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.”

Trump’s lawyer, Scott S. Balber released a letter accompanied by a copy of Trump’s birth certificate, which clearly stated that his father was, in fact, Fred Trump, and not an orangutan, Politico reports. The letter indicated the five charities the money was to go to: Hurricane Sandy Victims, the Police Athletic League, the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Trump has been the subject of Maher’s jokes and jests in the past. The January bet was made in response to Trump’s offer to give $5 million to charity if President Barack Obama released his passport and college records. Trump has long maintained that Obama was born outside the United States and is therefore disqualified to serve as president.
