NEWS / CBP Seizes $55,000 in Marijuana at Brownsville, Texas Entry


Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Gateway International Bridge, Brownsville, Texas yesterday discovered marijuana valued at approximately $55,600 concealed within a Dodge Caravan.

CBP officers at the bridge stopped a male driving a maroon 1994 Dodge for a primary inspection. Examination by CBP officers in secondary revealed 25 hidden packages concealed within the Caravan. CBP officers removed the packages from the vehicle that had a combined total weight of 55.6 pounds of suspected marijuana.

This seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $55,600. CBP officers turned the man over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.

“Our CBP officers’ vigilance was instrumental to the detection of this load of marijuana and in preventing these dangerous narcotics from reaching the streets of our country,” said Michael Freeman, port director, Brownsville. “I congratulate and thank our officers for an outstanding job with this seizure and for keeping our community secure by stopping these narcotics on the frontline.”
