NEWS / TX woman arrested after convincing pastor to certify fake marriage certificateA Texas woman is in jail after she convinced a pastor to certify a bogus marriage certificate registering her marriage with her ex-fiancé. Police in Beverly Hills, a small town in the Waco, TX, metropolitan area, identified Lavontis Williams, 34, as the pastor who fraudulently certified the marriage certificate from Kristin Marie Spearman. “Lavontis is still fully cooperating with law enforcement and has expressed his sincere remorse for the occurrence,” Beverly Hills Police Chief Kory Martin was as stating. In the meantime, police arrested Spearman on a third-degree felony stalking charge and booked her into the McLennan County Jail on Monday, June 16, with a $10,000 bond. This happened after her ex-fiancé, who had broken up with her, received an unexpected Bath & Body Works “gift” package. The package contained a photo of Spearman proudly holding up a would-be marriage license certifying her nuptials with her ex, who had never even attended the marriage ceremony. The fraudulent marriage certificate was also included in the package. According to the ex-fiancé, the couple had indeed applied for a marriage license on June 2, but the man later broke up with Spearman and called off the marriage after an argument. Police state that Spearman then convinced Pastor Williams to certify the marriage certificate without her ex’s presence, approval, or knowledge. She was then able to file the certified marriage certificate with the county clerk’s office. |
