NEWS / Melrose Place actor Patrick Muldoon died of heart attack – death certificate

American Actor Patrick Muldoon, best known for his roles in Saved by the Bell, Melrose Place, Days of Our Lives, and Starship Troopers, died from a heart attack, according to his death certificate.

The death certificate, obtained by People, also lists pulmonary embolism and hereditary embolism as underlying causes.

Muldoon died in Beverly Hills, California, on April 19. His death was confirmed to Variety by his manager. The fact that he had died from a heart attack was reported at the time by a number of publications, such as Deadline and TMZ.

The actor’s death was sudden, and just 2 days prior, Muldoon posted on Instagram about how excited he was to work on Kockroach, a new crime thriller starring Chris Hemsworth and Taron Egerton.

Muldoon’s career started with his role of Jeffrey Hunter in the teen sitcom Saved by the Bell in 1991. He then went on to star as Austin Reed in the soap opera Days of Our Lives in 1992-1995 before moving on to his memorable role as Richard Hart in the soap opera Melrose Place in 1995-1996.

Muldoon’s roles on the small screen helped him land some notable roles on the big screen, including that of Zander Barcalow in Starship Troopers (1997), Jack Addison in Arrival II (1998), Steven in Stigmata (1999), and Matt Sullivan in Blackwoods (2001).

More recently, Muldoon served as a producer for a number of movies, including The Card Counter (2021), Riff Raff (2024), The Dreadful (2026), and the aforementioned and yet-to-be-released Kockroach.

“This is such heartbreaking news,” Muldoon’s Days of Our Lives co-star Alison Sweeney posted on X. “Pat was a rare kind of person—brilliantly talented, endlessly kind, and generous in spirit. I was so lucky to have worked with him when I first started at Days, he made me feel at ease right away. He brought his unique charm and humor to work every day. A truly gifted guy, and one who will be profoundly missed.”
