NEWS / Man accused of attacking Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar has criminal record – reportThe man accused of attacking Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota has a criminal record, according to records obtained by Fox News Digital. During a town hall event held on January 27th, 55-year-old Anthony James Kazmierczak allegedly attacked Representative Omar using a chemical spray with a foul odor. He was promptly arrested and detained at Hennepin County Jail, which serves the Minneapolis area. He was charged with third degree assault. According to criminal records, Kazmierczak had previously been convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2009, for which he was put on home detention for 30 days, and 2010, for which he served 1 day in jail and 5 years probation. Prior to going to the town hall event, Kazmierczak texted his neighbor Brian Kelley asking him to keep and eye over his dog, noting that “might get arrested,” New York Post reported. The town hall event addressed the controversial raids, known as Operation Metro Surge, conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the Minneapolis area, which resulted in deadly protests. In particular, ICE agents killed civilian protesters Renée Good on January 7 and Alex Pretti on January 24, alleging that the two had been trying to assault federal agents, with tenuous video evidence presented to back that position. “ICE is shooting people in broad daylight, beating up teenagers, spraying tear gas on peaceful, peaceful protesters, ripping people out of their cars and homes without warrants, racially profiling people based on their accent, taking kids from schools and abducting people, shipping them far away detention camps with brutal conditions and no due process,” Representative Omar asserted “We cannot treat this as business as usual.” Omar also called for the resignation of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, an appointee of US President Donald Trump.
