Douglas, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they seized 135 pounds of marijuana concealed in the gas tank of a vehicle being driven by a 24-year-old man.

On July 15 just after 7 a. m., CBP officers were screening traffic coming from Mexico. The officers selected a 1998 Chevy Tahoe for inspection.

The vehicle was being driven by a 24-year-old man from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. With the assistance of a narcotics detection K-9 team, the CBP officers discovered that the gas tank contained metal boxes full of marijuana. The total weight of marijuana was 135 pounds with an estimated street value of $216,000.

CBP officers seized the vehicle and the marijuana. The man was turned over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.
