NEWS / New Hampshire notary reaches deal with Attorney General on accusations of violations

The Office of the Attorney General of New Hampshire has reached an agreement with Notary Public Patti Hendrick, who had been accused of notarizing affidavits without the presence of the signatories. Under the agreement, Hendrick will pay a $2,000 fine to the New Hampshire Secretary of State and resign her appointment as Notary Public. The affidavits in question were used to support house bill HB-571, a New Hampshire bill that would have legalized the use of off-highway recreational vehicles (OHRVs) on Hoit Road Marsh in the city of Concord. The Office of the Attorney General found that Hendrick notarized documents previously signed outside of her presence, which is a crime under New Hampshire law. The contents of the affidavits themselves were not challenged on factual grounds. Hendrick's file will remain open with the Attorney General's office for the next two years to monitor Hendrick's adherence to the terms of the agreement. If Hendrick fails to abide by the terms of the agreement, the Office of the Attorney General may bring criminal charges against her.
