NEWS / Man who killed family in Kansas had extensive criminal record – report

The man who shot and killed his wife and 4 children before taking his own life in Winfield, Kansas, had an extensive criminal record in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

According to KCTV, Ronald H. Williams had a criminal record going back decades. Among his convictions was a 1998 sentencing for attempted indecent liberties with a 15-year-old minor. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) reported that the offense occurred in June 1997, when Williams was in his 20s.

Court records also revealed that Williams had felony charges in Wyandotte, Johnson, and Franklin Counties, all of which are located in the Kansas City metropolitan area in eastern Kansas and western Missouri, between 1997 and 2024. The charges include drugs, battery, assault on a law enforcement officer, burglary, attempted rape, and kidnapping.

Williams’s life came to a tragic end in Winfield, a small city in the south of Kansas. On Tuesday, August 11, deputies received a call about a man who said he had killed his entire family and was about to kill himself. By the time officers arrives, they heard a gunshot inside a house. They then entered the house and discovered the bodies of Williams, along with his 44-year-old wife Kelly L. George and his 4 children: 9-year old Carol A. Williams, 7-year-old Ronald H. Williams Jr., 5-year-old Sarah K. Williams, and 3-year-old Kelly M. Magee-Williams.

The Winfield Police Department and Kansas Bureau of Investigation are investigating the shooting.
