NEWS / Former Collections Specialist Sentenced for Theft from EmployerBOSTON—A Maine man was sentenced today in federal court for stealing money from his former employer, a Massachusetts software company. United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Office, announced today that JOSEPH BOLDIGA, 69, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge George A. O’Toole to 41 months’ imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release and restitution in the amount of $1,076,484. Boldiga, of Eliot, Maine pleaded guilty to three counts of mail fraud. At the August 2010 plea hearing, the prosecutor told the court that had the case proceeded to trial, the evidence would have proven that over the course of a 10-year period, Boldiga, a collections specialist who was responsible for the collection of his employer’s accounts receivable, pocketed more than $1 million in payments from customers, all of which were intended for his employer. Instead of transmitting the collections to his employer, Boldiga diverted the funds into his own personal bank account and used the money for his own purposes. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori J. Holik of Ortiz’s Economic Crimes Unit. http://boston.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel10/bs111610a.htm |
