EU criticizes Poland over notaries and lotteries

Brussels has officially criticized Poland, along with fifteen other countries, for obstructing other EU nationals from the notarial profession. Under Polish legislation, only a Polish citizen can be a notary public in Poland, which ??“ says EU commissioner Charlie McCreevy in an official letter to the Polish authorities ??“ violates EU principles and directives.

Polish notaries have responded by disagreeing with Brussels. Meanwhile Brussels has also slammed down on Poland for discriminating against the winners of lotteries abroad, because taxes on winnings in Poland ??“ 10% - are far lower than taxes on winnings outside the country ??“ from 19 to 40%.
