NEWS / Meghan Markle alters her son’s birth certificate to reflect her royal status

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and daughter-in-law of British King Charles III, made an interesting alteration to the birth certificate of her and Prince Harry’s son Archie. According to Marca, Markle changed her own name from “Rachel Meghan” to “Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex” on the vital record about 1 month after Archie’s birth on May 6, 2019.

While it is not clear what motivated the amendment, The Sun speculated it it could be a dig at Crown Prince William and his spouse Kate, whose names are both featured on their children’s birth certificates. Another possibility is that the change was recommended by Prince Harry in reference to his late mother Diana, who used the term “Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales”.

The birth certificate alteration occurred at a time when Meghan and Harry found themselves at odds with the Royal Family. The couple ended up relocating to the United States, where they had their second child Lilibet.
