NEWS / Fugitive Turned Over to CBP at Pacific Highway Port of Entry

Blaine, Wash. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pacific Highway port of entry took into custody a man wanted in Tarrant County, Texas for possession of cocaine and probation violation. The man was turned over to them by officers of the Canada Border Services Agency on September 13.

CBP officers arrested Manuel Amaya, 26, when a name check revealed that he was the subject of a National Criminal Information Center felony warrant. Amaya was attempting to enter Canada as a passenger in a commercial tractor truck when he was detained by CBSA.

“This arrest typifies the close and professional working relationship among the northern border law enforcement agencies in Washington and British Columbia,” said Port Director Greg Alvarez. “CBP is proud of this bond which helps us perform our security mission to protect the American homeland.”

After the outstanding warrant for arrest was verified with Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, Amaya was transported to the Whatcom County Jail by the Washington State Patrol to await extradition back to Texas.

NCIC is a centralized automated data base designed to share information among law enforcement agencies including outstanding warrants for a wide range of offenses. CBP officers on the US/Canadian border have made previous arrests of individuals wanted for homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny and military desertion, based on information from NCIC.
