NEWS / Border Patrol, Cocopah Police Team to Secure Arizona Border

Yuma, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents and Cocopah police seized an abandoned bundle of marijuana in their first-ever patrol together along the Colorado River yesterday morning.

At about 10:20 a.m., Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma station all-terrain vehicle unit were patrolling along the Colorado River with a member of the Cocopah police. As agents and the officer patrolled in tandem, they discovered a partially buried bundle of marijuana wrapped in cellophane and foil. Agents and the officer secured the bundle and transported it back to the Yuma Station.

The bundle which weighed 20 pounds and had a street value of $16,560 was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

One of the core elements of the Border Patrol’s national strategy is partnerships with local law enforcement agencies. Over the years, the partnership between the Yuma Border Patrol Station and the Cocopah Police Department has been, and continues to be, fruitful. Through a coordinated effort, Border Patrol agents and Cocopah Police officers strive to reduce crime in their border community and improving the quality of life.

Since October 1, 2009, the Yuma Sector has stopped 12,792 pounds of marijuana from reaching the streets.
