NEWS / Waterbury, Connecticut Man Sentenced to 87 Months for Robbing Putnam County Savings Bank

PREET BHARARA, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that DENNIS WILSON was sentenced by United States District Judge COLLEEN MCMAHON in White Plains federal court yesterday to 87 months’ imprisonment for the September 9, 2009, robbery of the Putnam County Savings Bank on Route 6 in Brewster, New York. WILSON pled guilty to the robbery on December 1, 2010.

During his plea allocution, WILSON admitted that he entered the Putnam County Savings Bank on Route 6 in Brewster, displayed a BB gun, and robbed the bank, making off with approximately $26,000.

According to the complaint, which was previously filed in this case, Putnam County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) investigators later recovered the BB gun, which looked like a real handgun, and a clothing tag that was traced to a shirt which matched the witness’ description of the shirt worn by the robber during the robbery. Approximately two days before the robbery, WILSON’s debit card was used at a Waterbury area Walmart store to purchase a shirt bearing the same bar code number as the clothing tag and a BB gun with the same manufacturer and model number as the BB gun found by the PCSD.

Mr. BHARARA praised the outstanding investigative work of the FBI, the PCSD, and the Waterbury Police Department.

This case is being handled by the office’s White Plains Division. Assistant United States Attorney DOUGLAS B. BLOOM is in charge of the prosecution.
