NEWS / U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers Intercept Ecstasy Smuggling Attempt

Niagara Falls, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection today announced the seizure of more than 2,000 tablets of ecstasy (MDMA) at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing on Tuesday. The seizure resulted in the arrest of Leanardo Coleman, a 23-year-old Canadian from Toronto.

CBP officers encountered Coleman as he applied for admission into the United States, traveling in a commercial bus. He advised CBP Officers that he was destined to visit a sick relative in New York City.

During a secondary interview, CBP officers noticed that Coleman’s waist area was unusually bulky. A search of his person revealed the illegal narcotics tucked into the waist band of his pants. Two vacuum sealed bags of ecstasy were discovered.

Federal prosecution was accepted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Western District of New York for violations of smuggling a controlled substance, failure to declare and illegal possession/transport of a controlled substance. Coleman was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents pending arraignment.
