NEWS / Ringleader Convicted in Six-Year Interstate Burglary Spree

PHILADELPHIA—Scott A. Hornick, 38, was convicted today of six counts of interstate transportation of stolen property and two counts of conspiracy stemming from a burglary spree he engaged in after escaping from prison. Hornick assembled a gang of burglars with whom he burglarized more than 150 businesses in more than a dozen states.

Hornick and his co-defendants used disguises and burglary tools to forcibly enter businesses after hours, filling bags with store merchandise, and loading the bags into rented or stolen vehicles. Hornick and his gang then transported their stolen goods to Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, to hand the merchandise over to their “fence.”

Hornick faces a maximum possible sentence of 85 years in prison, a $2 million fine, three years of supervised release, and a $800 special assessment when sentenced. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Baltimore County Police Department, the Delaware State Police, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Allendale, New Jersey Police Department, the New York City Police Department, and the Clarkstown, New York Police Department, in cooperation with other local law enforcement in numerous states. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Joe Khan and Kevin Brenner.
