NEWS / Oklahoma family trying to get birth certificates for 6 years

An Oklahoma couple is struggling to obtain birth certificates for 3 of their 4 children. The issue arose because these children were born at home, making it harder to document the live birth.

"It’s hurt us bad them kids not being documented. It’s hurt our family real bad," mom Hannah Martinez was quoted by ABC News Channel 8 Tulsa as stating.

According to the children’s father, Victor Castro, the couple filed multiple birth certificate applications, but they were rejected, with the state indicated that they had been completed incorrectly. Castro also stated that the Oklahoma State Department of Health keeps asking for paperwork the couple had already filed.

All 4 children were born at home, with a local hospital assisting on the first birth, but the parents having to take care of filing appropriate paperwork filing on their own with the ensuing 3 births. The eldest of the 3 children without birth certificates is already 6 years old.

According to Hannah Martinez, the family once even tried to drive to Oklahoma City to try to resolve the issues in person but were reportedly denied access to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

"I called up there and I called up there for at least three years and they wouldn’t, three years straight and they would not give me no update on my child. What more do you want?," Martinez was quoted as stating.

The couple has even sought out legal help, but to no avail.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health has refused to comment on the situation citing privacy law.
