NEWS / Notary public pleads guilty to business fraud


A Socorro notary public was sentenced Friday to 100 hours of community service and a year on probation after pleading guilty in a county court to engaging in deceptive business practices, El Paso County Attorney Jos?? Rodr??guez said.

Patricia Puentes Monroy, owner of M&N Business Management Services, was accused of illegally providing immigration services. She will have to pay $5,449 restitution to four customers plus restitution to 16 people as part of a civil lawsuit.

"In Texas, it is illegal for notary publics to do any immigration work," Rodr??guez said.
