NEWS / Man with extensive criminal record key suspect in Florida car burglary

A man with an extensive criminal record is wanted over a car burglary that was caught on camera in the City of South Miami, Florida.

The man, Walter Tyson Gervais, 48, has an “extensive criminal past,” according to South Miami Police.

On Tuesday, May 5, Gervais, was reportedly seen trying to open the doors of multiple cars on surveillance video at a parking garage located at 5950 Southwest 74th Street. Eventually, the man was able to open the door of one car to rummage through it and taking away several items from the car’s trunk.

All in all, the man stole $200 worth of property from the victim’s car, according to police officials.

According to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of the Court and Comptroller, Gervais has a substantial criminal record, including arrests for battery, trespassing, drum possession, grand theft, and disorderly intoxication.

"He is a career criminal, has over 36 pages of criminal history involving violent crimes, car break-ins, house break-ins, robberies," South Miami Police Sergeant Fernando Bosch was quoted by NBC 6 South Florida as stating. "This is a very dangerous individual who we want to get off the streets."
