NEWS / Jamaican man convicted of using fake birth certificate to apply for US passport

A Jamaican man living in Hartford, Connecticut, has been convicted of using a fake birth certificate to apply for a United States passport under a made-up name.

According to news release from U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Jamaican national Marlon Damian White, 47, pleaded guilty to the charge of making a false statement in a US passport application.

US Attorney for the District of Connecticut David X. Sullivan noted that White had been legally admitted to the United States as a permanent resident in 1995, but lost his status and deported in 2006, after being convicted of a number of charges, including assault and drug distribution.

The Attorney stated that White returned to the United States in 2024 and went on to apply for a US passport using a counterfeit California birth certificate and driver's license. White was arrested on October 9, 2025.

According to the New Haven Register, White is scheduled to be sentenced on March 26, 2026, and faces up to 10 years in prison.
