NEWS / German leader presents US President Donald Trump with grandfather’s birth certificate

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz presented US President Donald Trump with the birth certificate of the latter’s grandfather, Friedrich Trump, a native of Bavaria.

According to Fox 5 News Washington DC, The birth certificate was presented during a June 5 meeting between the two leaders in the Oval Office as a gift in a golden frame.

The meeting marked Chancellor Merz’s first encounter with Trump, as he had just stepped into the position of Chancellor earlier this year on May 6.

Friedrich Trump was less then 2 years old when Bavaria became a constituent part of the newly formed German Empire, following Prussia’s defeat over France in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871, and the unification of the myriad German states under the leadership of Prussia and its all-mighty Chancellor Otto von Bismarck.

Friedrich Trump emigrated to the United States in 1885, building a fortune by speculating in real estate in Seattle, Washington, as well as operating a restaurant and brothel in Yukon, Canada. He adopted the name Frederick Trump and was stripped of his German citizenship in 1905. In the 1910s, he began investing in real estate in the New York City borough of Queens but passed away in 1918 flu pandemic.

Frederick Trump’s burgeoning real estate operations were continued by son Frederick Jr, better known as Fred Trump, who had been born in 1905. Fred Trump started by working a variety of odd jobs before starting to invest in real estate and building a fortune, albeit one that was mired in controversy. In 1946, he had his 4th son Donald, who went on to built a real estate empire of his own and was elected US President to 2 non-consecutive terms in 2016 and 2024.
