NEWS / Florida violinist arrested for smashing pumpkins

A 31-year-old transient violinist has been arrested for smashing and destroying pumpkins stored in front of a Target store in Largo, a city in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. The man has had an extensive arrest and conviction record, including burglary and battery.

According to WFLA New Channel 8, Aaron Thompson arrived at a Target store in Largo on October 21 at 1:15 am. Video footage captured him selecting pumpkins from a box located outside the store and then proceeding to pummel them on the ground. The man’s arrest affidavit indicated that he had destroyed 80 gourds worth $472.14.

Since the store was closed and authorities were not present during the incident, Thompson was able to get away. However, on October 25, he returned to the Target, where a sheriff’s deputy showed him surveillance footage of the incident and asked Thompson to identify the pumpkin smasher.

“That’s me,” Thompson admitted, adding that he did it because “someone was messing with him on Facebook and it made him mad,” the affidavit reads.

According to the document, Thompson was unapologetic about his actions and went home to sleep after destroying the pumpkins. At the same time, the affidavit indicates that Thompson is a transient without a permanent place of residence.
