NEWS / Ewing Man Pleads Guilty to Distributing Child Pornography Over the Internet

TRENTON – Attorney General Anne Milgram announced that a Mercer County man has pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography via the Internet.

According to Criminal Justice Director Deborah L. Gramiccioni, Randy E. Moretz, 30, of Ewing, pleaded guilty yesterday (Nov. 17) to second-degree distribution of child pornography before Superior Court Judge Frederick P. DeVesa in Middlesex County. The charge was contained in an Oct. 31, 2008 state grand jury indictment.

Judge DeVesa scheduled sentencing for Feb. 4, at which time the state will recommend that Moretz be sentenced to five years in state prison.

In pleading guilty, Moretz, who lived in Cranbury at the time of the crime, admitted that on March 2, 2008, he sent an e-mail from his AOL account containing an image of child pornography to another user on the Internet. AOL detected the child pornography, closed Moretz’s account and referred the matter to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which referred the matter to the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Moretz was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force on Sept. 12, 2008 and is currently free on his own recognizance.

Members of the New Jersey State Police and Deputy Attorney General Kenneth Sharpe coordinated the investigation. Sharpe represented the Division of Criminal Justice at the guilty plea hearing.
