NEWS / “Christmas Miracle” birth certificate revelation leads North Carolina man to reunite with siblings

A man from North Carolina will be celebrating Christmas with his long-lost siblings, who he did not know even existed until recently. The man discovered these fascinating new facts about his life after ordering his pre-adoption birth certificate back in August.

Dixon Handshaw, 75, was adopted as an infant in Buffalo, New York, and grew up in Elmira. Throughout his life, Handshaw was made to believe he was a sole child.

“All my life, I dreamed about having siblings somewhere,” Handshaw was quoted by ABC News 13 WHAM as saying.

While Handshaw was initially hesitant to order his pre-adoption birth certificate, which he had not seen before, he eventually decided to go forward with the idea to discover that he had an extended biological family of 6 siblings.

“It’s a Christmas miracle,” Handshaw stated, “That's what I call it, my Christmas miracle.”

After unearthing the names of his original biological parents, Handshaw reached out to the man he believed was his surviving biological brother, Gary Romig. Romig answered a phone call from Handshaw and connected his long-lost brother with his 5 other siblings.

And now, Handshaw is arriving in Rochester, New York, to celebrate Christmas with his extended family.

"I'm not going to waste any time having this new family," said Handshaw. "I couldn't be happier."
