NEWS / Chimp expert Jane Goodall died of cardiac arrest – death certificate

World-renowned primatologist and chimpanzee expert Jane Goodall died of a cardiopulmonary arrest, according to her death certificate, obtained from Los Angeles County by TMZ.

The death certificate also listed “epilepsy” as an underlying cause, but it is unclear if the actual condition played a role in Goodall’s passing.

A native of England, Goodall passed away in California while on a speaking tour of the United States. She was 91.

Goodall was well-known for her research demonstrating the use of tools and the forming of social bonds by chimpanzees. She also founded the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977, with the goal of promoting wildlife conservation. She also set up wildlife sanctuaries and promoted reforestation projects in throughout Africa. She was appointed United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2002 and published over 30 books.
