NEWS / CBP U.S. Border Patrol Seizes Methamphetamine Worth $800K

Salton City, CA – Last Saturday, U.S. Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Indio Station foiled a drug smuggling attempt worth approximately $806,000, at the Highway 86 Checkpoint near Salton City.

A 20-year-old man driving a small sedan approached the checkpoint around 7:10 p.m. A Border Patrol canine team performing a preprimary inspection alerted to the vehicle.

Border Patrol Agents referred the man to secondary inspection where they scanned the vehicle using a large scale imaging system. During the scan, agents observed several irregularities near the vehicle’s bumper prompting further investigation.

After a thorough search, agents discovered an aftermarket compartment near the bumper holding two long tubular packages. The packages were found to contain methamphetamine weighing approximately 25 pounds.

The driver was placed under arrest and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the vehicle and methamphetamine.
