NEWS / CBP U.S. Border Patrol Seizes Methamphetamine Worth $800KSalton City, CA – Last Saturday, U.S. Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Indio Station foiled a drug smuggling attempt worth approximately $806,000, at the Highway 86 Checkpoint near Salton City. A 20-year-old man driving a small sedan approached the checkpoint around 7:10 p.m. A Border Patrol canine team performing a preprimary inspection alerted to the vehicle. Border Patrol Agents referred the man to secondary inspection where they scanned the vehicle using a large scale imaging system. During the scan, agents observed several irregularities near the vehicle’s bumper prompting further investigation. After a thorough search, agents discovered an aftermarket compartment near the bumper holding two long tubular packages. The packages were found to contain methamphetamine weighing approximately 25 pounds.
