Douglas, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a drug smuggling attempt when they apprehended a 16-year-old boy trying to smuggle marijuana concealed in the wheels of his bicycle.

On November 20 at about 6:30 p.m. CBP officers were screening travelers when they observed a 16-year-old boy approaching the primary vehicle lanes pushing a bicycle. The boy was identified as a U.S citizen and resident of Douglas.

The CBP officers searched the bicycle and found that both tires had been loaded with marijuana. The total weight of marijuana was about 3.5 pounds for an estimated street value of more than $5,300.

CBP officers seized the marijuana and bicycle. The boy was held by CBP officers for questioning and then released to the custody of his parents.
