NEWS / CBP Officers Have Tug-of-War with Smugglers at Naco Port of Entry

Naco, Arizona - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a smuggling attempt when they intercepted 147 pounds of marijuana being passed over the border fence by rope. After a short bout of tug-of-war with the would-be-smugglers the CBP officers were able to secure the marijuana.

CBP officers were screening and processing traffic when an attempted breach of the security fence near the Naco port of entry was detected. The CBP officers responded quickly to the location and found that would-be-smugglers had tied ropes to 3 burlap sacks of marijuana and were lowering them over the fence and into the United States. Two of the sacks had already been lowered. The officers grabbed on to the last burlap sack being lowered and after a short game of tug-of-war, the would-be-smugglers abandoned their efforts to retrieve their burlap sack of marijuana and ran off. The total weight of marijuana in the 3 sacks was 147 pounds with an estimated street value of $668,000.

CBP officers seized the marijuana.
