NEWS / CBP Officers find Marijuana in Childs Stroller, also Capture Homicide FugitivesSan Diego - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry today arrested a woman pushing a little girl in a stroller after they found marijuana hidden in the stroller, and yesterday captured a man wanted in connection with a homicide in Wisconsin. Early this morning at about 5:45 a.m., CBP officers encountered a 38-year-old woman pushing her 6-year-old daughter in a stroller through the pedestrian facility when a detector alerted to the stroller. Once the woman removed the child from the stroller, officers unzipped the seat compartment and discovered a cellophane wrapped package of marijuana. Offices subsequently found three wrapped packages of marijuana weighing nine pounds valued at $5,500. The woman, a U.S. citizen and resident of Tijuana, was transported to the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Center to await arraignment on drug smuggling charges. The child, also a U.S. citizen, was taken to a local temporary emergency shelter for children. CBP officers also made a significant arrest yesterday at 11 a.m. when 65-year-old Jack Johnson entered the port driving a Ford F-150 accompanied by a 53-year-old male U.S. citizen. During the inspection, the officer developed information that Johnson had a warrant for his arrest and escorted him, the vehicle, and his passenger to the secondary area for further investigation. Officers confirmed Johnson was wanted by the Waukesha police department in Wisconsin on a $2 million bail felony warrant for homicide. He was transported to the San Diego County Jail to await extradition. Later that day at 5:30 pm., Mexican authorities turned over 26-year-old Justin Welch, a U.S. citizen, to CBP officers. Welch was also wanted on a $2 million bail warrant by the Waukesha County police department in connection with the same homicide. Welch was transported to the San Diego County Jail to await extradition. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/newsroom/news_releases/11192009_7.xml |
