NEWS / CA birth certificate reveals name of Rihanna’s second son as Riot

The birth certificate of Barbadian pop/R&B singer Rihanna’s son has revealed that the newborn was named “Riot”. The superstar had her second child with American rapper A$AP Rocky on August 1, 2023, just over a year after giving birth to her first child, RZA Athelston Mayers.

The full name of the baby boy is Riot Rose Mayers, which may reference the song “Riot (Rowdy Pipe’n)" that A$AP Rocky (whose real name is Rakim Mayers) co-wrote with Pharrell Williams and Tyler the Creator earlier this year.

Entertainment resource The Blast, along with a number of other online news resources, obtained a certified informational copy of the birth certificate from either the State of California or the County of Los Angeles. The certified copy confirmed that the baby boy was born at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on August 1 at 7:41 am. The OBGYN who assisted Rihanna during the birth was Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, who has also worked with Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Al Pacino’s girlfriend Noor Alfallah.

Rihanna’s previous child RZA Athelston Mayers was also fathered by A$AP Rocky and was named after Wu-Tang Clan member RZA. Rihanna shared RZA Athelston’s photos within several months after his birth, and many fans are hoping she will do the same with regard to Riot Rose.

Rihanna has been dating A$AP Rocky since 2020 and has had her only two children with the rapper. Rihanna sensationally announced her latest pregnancy during the Super Bowl halftime show on February 12, 2023. She previously dated rapper Chris Brown and Saudi businessperson Hassan Jameel but had no children with them.

Rihanna was born in Barbados and catapulted to fame with her 2005 debut album Music of the Sun, which featured the dancehall hit “Pon de Replay”. Her debut success was followed with even more successful albums A Girl Like Me, which featured the Soft Cell-inspired “SOS”, and Good Girl Gone Bad, featuring her arguably most famous hit “Umbrella”, “Shut Up and Drive”, and “Don’t Stop the Music”. She continued working throughout the 2010s, with her last album Anti (featuring the hit “Work"), coming out in 2016. Rihanna has also successfully collaborated with other artists, such as Jay-Z, Eminem, Maroon 5, Drake, and Calvin Harris.

It is worth noting that California law allows the state and counties to issue certified “informational” copies to any interested person. We usually do not recommend using such copies for legal purposes, as the copy will have the sentence “INFORMATIONAL, NOT A VALID DOCUMENT TO ESTABLISH IDENTITY” printed on it. We are able to obtain certified authorized copies of California birth certificates, provided we receive a notarized authorization letter from you (we can prepare that letter beforehand). We can also apostille or authenticate your birth certificate if necessary.
