NEWS / Atlantic County Man Sentenced for Distributing Child Pornography Over Internet

TRENTON - Attorney General Anne Milgram announced that an Atlantic County man was sentenced to state prison today for distributing child pornography over the Internet.

According to Criminal Justice Director Deborah L. Gramiccioni, Richard Casamento, Sr., 65, of Brigantine, was sentenced to three years in state prison by Superior Court Judge Charles Middlesworth, Jr. in Atlantic County. Casamento is also required to register under Megan’s Law. The sentence is based on Casamento’s guilty plea to an accusation charging him with distribution of child pornography.

In pleading guilty on June 18, Casamento admitted that he distributed a video containing child pornography from his America Online e-mail address in September 2007.

A search warrant executed on April 11, 2008 by the New Jersey State Police revealed images of child pornography on two of Casamento’s computers. A forensic examination of Casamento’s desktop computer revealed numerous images of child pornography, including multiple videos of child pornography. A forensic examination of Casamento’s laptop computer revealed numerous images of child pornography and three videos of child pornography. Casamento was arrested on April 11, 2008 on charges of distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

The Digital Technology Investigation Unit of the New Jersey State Police coordinated the investigation. Deputy Attorney General Lee Schaer represented the Division of Criminal Justice Major Crimes Bureau at the sentencing.
