Katherine Hartley, daughter of acclaimed Canadian actor and comedian Martin Short, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. This unsettling fact has been revealed by TMZ, which obtained a certified copy of Short’s death certificate as issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The 42-year-old social worker was found dead at her Hollywood Hills home on Monday, February 24, with the Los Angeles Police Department and Fire Department being called into the scene. An unreleased “note” was also found next to her body.

The death certificate also indicated that Short had been cremated.

According to TMZ, a close friend of Katherine reported that she had not noticed any unusual behavior.

As a social worker, Hartley worked with Bring Change to Mind, a nonprofit aimed at breaking down stigmas surrounding mental health. In 2013, she changed her legal name from Katherine Short to Katherine Hartley as she reportedly expressed concern about “potential harassment from future patients” resulting from her connection to her celebrity father, TMZ reported

Katherine Hartley was born December 3, 1983, to Martin Short and Nancy Dolman, also a well-known Canadian actress and singer who had passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010.
