FAQ / What is the difference between city and county?

Usually, a city is a part of county. However, there are some exceptions: some US cities are congruent to their counties, for example, Jacksonville, FL or Nashville, TN. There is only one US city that is bigger than one county – New York City, it consists of 5 counties. There are also some US cities that are not a part of any county.
