NEWS / LARGEST DOCUMENT FORGERY SCHEME IN UK INVOLVES BULGARIANS

Three Bulgarians were detained in the afternoon of July 4 on charges of participation in a large net for identity documents forgery in the UK.

UK police officers found 1800 passports from 12 countries, the sales price of which exceeds one million British pounds, Press Association reported as quoted by Dnevnik daily.

This is the largest quantity of forged documents ever found in the UK. Police detained three Bulgarians and two Albanians.

Police officers were surprised to find in an apartment in London 200 UK passports which are extremely difficult to be forged. Police also found 562 Finnish, 428 Portuguese, 62 Korean as well as Slovenian, Albanian, Greek, Italian and French passports.

The apartment was equipped with high-class technology, printers, scanners, two computers and false seals of the immigration authorities.

The group was very well organised and the forged documents could be easily sold to everyone willing to commit some kind of fraud or enter illegally the country.

All UK documents found were of a type that has not been produced by authorities since 2001. The newest models have improved protection system with biometric data and chip.
