Conference for Hispanic consumers set in Yakima
YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC
Attorney General Rob McKenna will host a Latino Consumer Education Conference in Yakima on Oct. 20 at the Yakima Convention Center.
Fraud experts say Hispanic consumers are at an increased risk of being swindled by a variety of scams, including predatory loans, wire transfer fraud and notary publics representing themselves as lawyers.

Participants must register at www.atg.wa.gov/LatinoConference.

The conference will bring together professionals and leaders in consumer services, consumer advocacy and business to talk about anti-fraud strategies.

Among those appearing are Pastor Herrera Jr., director of the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs; Bishop Carlos Sevilla of the Yakima Diocese; Michael Sotelo, president of the state Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and Raul Almeida, captain of the Hanford Patrol.

A registration fee of $12 will be collected at the door on the day of the event to cover lunch and some program expenses. The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
