NEWS / CBP Officers Intercept Alleged Impostor and Woman Who Claiming to be U.S. Citizen

Hidalgo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge intercepted a female alleged impostor to a valid entry document and a second woman who allegedly made a false claim to U.S. citizenship this weekend.

On April 4, 2010, CBP officers working at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge came in contact with a woman at the pedestrian crossing. After the initial primary examination, the 42-year-old Mexican national was referred to secondary for further inspection. At that point, officers discovered that the U.S. entry document presented by the woman did not belong to her.

Later that day, CBP officers came in contact with a woman who arrived at the port of entry in a taxicab. At an initial inspection, the 23-year-old woman presented a Texas state identification card and a U.S. birth certificate issued by the City of McAllen, Texas. After a CBP officer referred the female to secondary inspection, officers discovered the person was actually a citizen of Mexico.

CBP officers have detained and charged both women on alleged violations of immigration law.

Hector A. Mancha, CBP Port Director said, “Our frontline officers are doing great work in screening arriving international travelers and they continue to uncover alleged violations of immigration law.”
