FAQ / If I want to sell my own work, do I need a license?

Merchandise such as paintings, illustrations, photographs and books can be sold without obtaining a license because these items are protected by the First Amendment, which guarantees free speech. However, the vendors of such works are still subject to regulations applicable to all street vendors.
